MY SON ATE A HAMBURGER!

Steven and I saw Katie off this morning. She is in Gatlinburg with her GG for 2 days. I have to admit that it upsets me for Alie-Grace that it is just for Katie but I have to sit back and realize that she needs time away to restore her self as much as I do.

After we said our goodbyes, Steven Alie, Wes and I headed to the zoo. Did you know that the zoo can be very overwhelming? Wes, hates to walk long distances. He has low muscle tone in his legs and arms and gets tired very easily. However, it is great for him to walk.

After dealing with all of the sroller drama (thanks stace) we began our journey. We are on a mission to see the whole zoo. Not just what Wes wants to see. Easier said than done. We did it and we are exhausted. Exhausting in many ways, who knew the zoo could be mentally exhausting? And my sweet hubby had to be at work at 6pm. (we got home at 4:30) ! He is such a trooper!

On the way home we had to stop at White Castle (by order of our king steven) Alie was asleep but we ordered Wes some fries and then as we are driving he says " Can I have a bite of that burger?" HOLD UP! my child does not eat hamburgers ever never, never, never!!!!!!!!!

"Sure baby, here you go. "(keep in mind it is plain b/c that is how Steven eats 'em) Wes, says
" Yum, Yum I love it, can I keep it?"

*MY SON ATE A HAMBURGER!* THIS IS HUGE! Yes, i called his grandparents from the car!

This was a GREAT DAY!

I get this really informative e-mail from the autism society of middle tennessee. It has lots of great local happenings and great websites. I took these from ine of those great sites for your reading enjoyment.

10 Things to make you smile :-)

1. It's absolutely amazing how many stores have ceiling fans

2. When I'm in the mood to answer the same question 300 times in a row, I know just who to go to

3. I never have to be creative at dinner. It's chicken nuggets & peas. Every night! Or else :-)
(mac and chz for wes no peas:(

4. I know where every fire hydrant is located in the entire city

5. I had no idea there were so many uses for a household spoon

6. If I ever get insomnia, I'll always have company ( we know that is true)

7. Sixty-four airplanes fly over my house every day

8. If I develop a sudden fascination with vacuum cleaners, my child can tell me everything about them - as many times as I'm willing to listen
(or at our house the great discussion is hydro generators)

9. Refrigerators can actually hum

10. Buy new shirt. Remove tag. Wash 8 times. Ready to wear.

Austim Paradox

1. It's easy to recite an entire book but difficult to make up a story

2. It's easy to line up toys but difficult to stay in line

3. It makes perfect sense to climb on the sofa but little sense to sit on it

4. Memorizing the Presidents in order - 10 minutes. Packing a school bag - 10 hours

5. Family pictures on the wall are boring but that speck of dust next to it, now that's fascinating!

6. Talking about weather patterns - piece of cake. Talking about my day… impossible!

7. Ability to focus on spinning objects - timeless, ability to focus on homework - 3 seconds

8. Being called by name, can't hear it. Some owl hooting in the distance - clear as a bell

9. How to operate the remote control - zero instruction. How to button up pants - intensive instruction

10. Navigating social rules - poorly skilled, Navigating from the back seat of the car - highly skilled

yeah for Wes! I find the zoo very overwhelming and I have no sensory issues!! It is big and usually too hot when we go. And generally I am the one who has melt down.
Love the lists!

Hey Rachel, it's Christi Beerley from MOPs. I don't know if you remember me, but I found your blog on Michelle Davidson's site. I wanted to know if you could maybe email and tell me your story about Wes and what you guys have gone through. My Andrew who is 3 and a half is probably about to be diagnosed and I've read so much about treatments that are out there. It's a little overwhelming and I would love to hear the things you guys have done. My email address is jayandchristibeerley@yahoo.com
I would appreciate anything you want to share. Have a great day!
