In the past 3 weeks we have had 3 birthday parties and I must say it has been the most stress free way I have ever done a birthday for one of my children. How in the world you ask? Anyone who has ever been to one of my kids parties will understand this! I am typically the mom who plans the party to the last detail with the save the date cards, invites , perfect homemade cake, two crafts, a game and really great goody bags. We usually have no less than 55-60 people. OK, it has been painfully brought to my attention (thanx mom) that my son (with autism) hates these parties and it is all for me to say I did it. He spent the entire 3 hours last year sitting inside watching cartoons while his friends made cowboy vest, rode the tin horse and played cowboys and indians (it was a cowboy party).
So, this year my lil' brother was in the week before his birthday. We had a party with my sibs, g-parents and parents. And in my mothers honor I did not make cake (b/c he hates it) we had ice cream, with candles and all.
On his birthday we had lasagna and garlic bread and home made choc. chip cookies. He also had brownies with his classmates.
Today, Stevens side (in my defense I have no control over the fact that with family only it was 35 people.) We had ice cream and some spiderman/sandman cupcakes. ( I do have 6 nephews who NEED cake) !
It was so simple! I get it now. People who say "Why do you do that to yourself?"
I won't anymore (on his birthday) the girls still get all the Stops pulled. They love it. But i do get it now!

Poor kiddo. Glad you get it now. Wish we could have joined you but the mil had other plans!
Do you have a phone?! I need to talk to you about lessons and such.
Good for you :o)
I am finding more and more that my frustrations in life stem from my wanting to control every aspect of my children and their lives because I feel it is a huge reflection on me! I am learning...slowly :o)
Do you know that the very first birthday party my oldest son was ever invited to was Wes's?!? i have a scrapbook page to prove it!
